Motor Vehicle Accidents and Pregnant Women: A Dangerous Combination

Stephanie Thompson, Estate Planning Attorney of Krueger Hernandez & Thompson SC · Jan 7, 2016 ·

motor vehicle accidentsAre you pregnant? Do you find yourself driving often? Just the same as anybody, you never want to be involved in a motor vehicle accident. This is even more so the case if you are pregnant.

A crash can be traumatic for a pregnant woman. Not only is she concerned about her own well being, but the same holds true for her unborn child. In the event of an accident, a pregnant woman is susceptible to:

  • Placental abruption
  • Pre-term labor
  • Miscarriage

Note: it doesn’t matter how you feel after a motor vehicle accident, if you are pregnant this should be followed up with an immediate medical examination. This will ensure that both you and your baby are in good health. If something has gone wrong, the appropriate action can be taken without delay.

What to Watch for

If you are pregnant and involved in a motor vehicle accident, here are some of the early symptoms to watch for:

  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Pain in the abdomen
  • Vomiting
  • Dizziness or faintness
  • Vomiting
  • Not able to feel the baby move

It is worth nothing again that there is no harm in seeking medical care. You should never consider this wasted time or money, as you are doing something for the overall health of you and your baby. This can go a long way in improving your overall level of health, while also giving you peace of mind.

Being involved in a motor vehicle accident is frightening. If you are pregnant, there is always the chance that your unborn baby could be injured. This is why it is imperative to seek medical advice.

If you eventually find yourself in position to file an insurance claim or lawsuit, you will want the help of an experienced personal injury attorney. We are available to answer your questions, address your concerns, and help you feel better about the future.
