Reasons to Hire a Personal Injury Attorney

Stephanie Thompson, Estate Planning Attorney of Krueger Hernandez & Thompson SC · Feb 25, 2016 ·

personal injury attorneyNobody wants to hire a personal injury attorney. If you are considering this, it means you or a loved one has been injured in some type of accident.

While it is easy enough to reach out to a personal injury attorney to discuss your situation, you may have some reservations about doing so. Here are some of the primary reasons to consult with a legal professional, as opposed to keeping everything to yourself:

  1. Get an explanation on your legal rights. Being injured in an accident is a big deal. While your health and well being is more important than anything, you also need to understand your legal rights.
  2. To ensure that you receive the compensation you deserve for your injuries and other damages. If you don’t file a lawsuit at the appropriate time, it could hold you back from ever receiving compensation. This is not a risk most people are willing to take.
  3. Assistance with investigating the accident. While you may have a basic idea of what happened and who was at fault, there is always more than meets the eye. Your attorney is an experienced investigator who can dig up all the information necessary to improve your chance of a positive outcome.

Final reason to hire an attorney: it won’t cost you any money upfront. If you have a good case, your attorney is likely to take it on a contingency basis. This means you do not pay an hourly or set fee. Instead, your attorney only gets paid if you receive compensation.

It may be hard to picture yourself communicating with a personal injury attorney and relying on this person to get your life back in order. However, there could come a time when you need a legal team on your side to ensure that you get a fair shake from the legal system.
