Choosing a Wisconsin Lawyer: What to Look for?

Stephanie Thompson, Estate Planning Attorney of Krueger Hernandez & Thompson SC · Sep 10, 2013 ·

Recently, we had an associate attorney suddenly walk in and declare she was leaving the firm to set up her own firm with another  lawyer.  There was no advance notice, discussion or warning.

Certainly, employees can come and go as they choose.  In fact, I have seen statistics that the average associate will change firms many times before settling down with a particular firm.  Employees are not property and they have a right to choose their employment options.  Although we wish her the best, her departure got me thinking.

I began considering what this could mean to a past, current or future clients.  There are many lawyers and law firms to choose from and we absolutely appreciate and honor all of our client relationships with all of our past, current and future clients.  We consider clients to be members of our “family” and strive to treat them as such giving them the respect and dignity that each of them deserve.  It made me think that perhaps people, when considering lawyers and/or law firms, should look at the bigger picture.  Although you may have one particular legal need wouldn’t it be nice to know that although one particular lawyer was helping you with one legal need, that same firm can help you with other legal problems if and when they arise?

It made me think how much I appreciate having a relationship with a doctor that is part of a larger clinic.  It is comforting to know that, although my current medical issues involve an orthopedic surgeon (shoulder), if I have other medical needs I do not have to hunt for another doctor.  Instead all I need to do is make a simple call and I will be seen by a doctor that can address any medical issue.  Simple, painless and hassle free.  The same is true when choosing a law firm.

At Krueger Hernandez & Thompson SC we consider clients, regardless of who they initially see and regardless of their legal need, to be a member of our “legal family”.  This means that if they have other legal questions or needs, we will meet and discuss their problems.  These discussions are free of charge.

In addition, as part of our family we provide you with monthly newsletters covering all areas of law including the area of law that originally brought you to our firm.  This variety of information may not always be of help to you but it can be of help to friends, family members or loved ones.

None of the attorneys at Krueger Hernandez & Thompson SC are general practitioners.  Each focuses on only a few areas of law.  However, the firm handles most areas of law.  If we do not, we will refer you to a competent qualified attorney to resolve your legal needs outside of our expertise.

Finally, we are large enough to handle multiple areas of law but small enough to know each of our clients on an individual basis.  We work as a team so that when one individual leaves the firm or is not available for any reason your file does not sit untouched or unresolved.  We work as a team so that the team can resolve all of your issues at an affordable cost to you and in a timely manner.

Teamwork is essential in every successful business.  The same is true when you are choosing a law firm.  Look for a law firm that works as a team and considers you part of the family.  At Krueger Hernandez & Thompson SC, we listen, we care, we get results!

We are here to help you.  If you have any questions about any legal issue in the Madison area please contact us at (608) 824-9540, in the Baraboo area at (608) 356-3961 or statewide at (866) 455-2993.  We look forward to helping you solve your legal problems for many, many years to come.
