Madison Personal Injury: What Can Underinsured Insurance Do for Me?

Stephanie Thompson, Estate Planning Attorney of Krueger Hernandez & Thompson SC · Jun 10, 2014 ·

madison personal injuryWhen purchasing car insurance in Madison, it is easy to overlook coverage details as you hope to save as much money as possible. While this may be tempting, it is important to pay attention to what a particular policy has to offer.

No matter if you are buying a new policy or reviewing what you currently have in place, it is important to consider the benefits of underinsured coverage. If you are involved in an accident caused by an underinsured driver, this coverage will ensure that you receive the compensation you deserve.

Two Types of Coverage

Underinsured motorist insurance can come in handy in two ways. First off, property damage coverage will pay for damage to your vehicle or other property in a covered incident.

Along with the above, bodily injury coverage can pay for medical expenses, lost wages, and other expenses that exceed the limits of the other party’s policy. This holds true both for you and any passengers who were injured.

Recommended but not Always Required

Did you know that only a few states require underinsured motorist coverage? In other words, this may not be something your insurance company requires you to purchase. Instead, it is a decision you have to make on your own.

Even if your state does not require this coverage, it is recommended most of the time. It is better to have some level of underinsured coverage than none at all. This will keep you protected in the event of an accident in which the other party does not have the appropriate level of insurance.

Were you Involved in an Accident?

If you were involved in a motor vehicle accident and injured due to the negligence of another party, it is important to consult with a Madison personal injury attorney. The other person’s insurance company may attempt to settle with you quickly, but this could lead to you leaving thousands of dollars on the table.

A qualified Madison personal injury attorney can review your accident and work with the insurance companies to ensure that you receive appropriate compensation.  Go to KH-LAW.net to schedule your free consultation today.
