Did you know that thousands of children are injured or killed each year in car accidents even though they are secured in their child safety seat? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that three out of four child seats are not correctly used leading to thousands of injuries and deaths every year. This statistic is alarming. The main reasons for not properly securing the safety seat is poor education and training by car seat manufacturers. The poor education and training causes the parents to improperly secure their child’s seat in a vehicle.
For the safety of the children, parents need to make sure that the safety seat is the correct size and should follow ALL instructions both that accompany the safety seat as well as their automobile to make sure that the seat is safely installed. The rear seat is always the safest place to put your child and your child’s car seat. Take the time necessary to secure the car seat and your child before driving with your child. Improper installation is an easy trap to fall into. With everyone short of time, it is easy to skip reading all instructions carefully. However, we really must take our time to understand proper installation and not take such an important step for granted. Nevertheless, many car seat manufacturers instructions are poorly written and not easily understood. The best intended person may still fall peril to improper installation of a car seat. When in doubt, reach out for clarification. If you have experienced reading a poorly drafted instruction manual for car seats, please share your experience. It is important to share information in an attempt to end the injuries of children.
