Top Questions to Ask your Car Insurance Agent After an Accident

Stephanie Thompson, Estate Planning Attorney of Krueger Hernandez & Thompson SC · Jul 17, 2015 ·

car insurance agentThe aftermath of an auto accident can bring many challenges into your life. As frustrating as it may be to find yourself in this position, especially if another driver was responsible for the accident, there are steps you can take to put this in the past.

At some point, you will find yourself in contact with your car insurance agent. At this time, it is imperative that you ask the right questions. This can be the difference between success and failure.

Here are the top questions to ask:

  1. What information do you need from me? It is likely that your agent will request a variety of details, such as your version of what happened. While it is important to answer these questions in an honest manner, don’t hesitate to consult with an attorney if you feel your car insurance company is pushing you around.
  2. What is covered and what isn’t covered? In short, you want to know what is covered by your policy and what you may be responsible for out of pocket. This becomes an even more important question if you were injured in the accident.
  3. What steps should I take next? One contact with your agent is not typically enough to resolve the situation. There is a good chance you will be in constant contact with your agent for the time being. Make sure you know what is expected of you in the days, weeks, and months to follow.

These are three of the most important questions to ask your car insurance agent after an accident. Keeping an open line of communication is of utmost importance, as this will improve your chance of a fast process that works in your favor.

A motor vehicle accident in which you are injured can be very serious. Your agent should be able to assist with the process.
