The question of whether you should report the accident if you were injured is one that crosses the mind of many people. Unfortunately, personal injury accidents in Wisconsin are very common. Sometimes people feel that if their injuries were minor that perhaps reporting the accident is being too extreme. In reality, ALL injuries of any nature should be reported. The reason to report the accident is two fold. One, your injury may not appear to be serious at first but may require medical treatment and may ultimately result in permanent injuries. You really should be safe than sorry and go to a medical professional to get checked out. You should never take an accident lightly. Whiplash and damage to your head or neck are things only a doctor should determine if it is not serious. Not reporting the accident is often times used as a defense that the accident never occurred.
The other reason to report the accident is to help others and preventing an accident from happening again. Even if your injuries are minor the next person’s injuries may be more serious. A defect or dangerous condition should be corrected immediately by a business owner and will not be if the accident goes unreported.
You should always report the accident as soon as reasonable. This means you should do so as soon as you are able making sure that you have taken care of your injuries and then report the accident.
