Maybe spring has come. If not, it will and with warmer weather and longer days comes more traffic. Motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians are out and about in much bigger numbers than during the winter months. As a result, everyone needs to pay more attention to what they are doing as well as what the other person is doing to avoid accidents.
Bicyclists must follow the rules of the road as do motorcyclists. Automobile drivers need to be on the lookout for bicyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians. Don’t assume the other person will do the right thing. Be proactive and take steps to avoid accidents.
Bicyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians, whether joggers or walkers, pay attention to what you are doing. Be on the lookout for motor vehicles that may not see you. Look both ways before crossing the street even if you are in a crosswalk. With warmer weather drivers also have more potential for being distracted while driving so they may not see you even though it is broad daylight.
During the 28 years that I have represented injured victims of accidents of all kinds, I can tell you that many times accidents happen in ways that simply cannot be explained. Many times they are in broad daylight on flat, level roads. Yet, in some of these cases the negligent driver cannot explain how it happened. In one case, the driver explained that, although he looked toward my client’s direction, “I just didn’t see him”. Be careful, be defensive and be proactive and avoid accidents.
