Vaccine Compensation: Childhood Vaccine Schedules

Stephanie Thompson, Estate Planning Attorney of Krueger Hernandez & Thompson SC · Jul 17, 2017 ·

Every year millions of vaccines are given to children from birth to 17 years of age, and as we enter the summer, a time when many children get their annual wellness visits, it is important to know what is required for your child. There is also an ever-increasing debate surrounding vaccination, and with the increase of recommended vaccines it can often be difficult to make decisions, but I want to encourage you to be informed.

What is an Immunization Schedule? What Vaccines should my child receive?

Every year the CDC (Center for Disease Control) produces an Immunization Schedule for both children and adults. These schedules are created based on those vaccinations that the CDC recommends, in a timetable format, for the specific ages that they are recommended to be given. The childhood vaccine schedule has changed drastically over the years from 2 vaccines in the 1940s, 3 vaccines in the 1980s, and is now at 11 different vaccines, with multiple doses, before age 6. Many parents worry about these vaccines. There have even been some who have chosen to no longer follow this schedule, some who have chosen to not vaccinate their children at all, and others who have chosen to vaccinate according to a modified schedule in a way that they feel is safer and healthier for their child. There is a lot of information, and often conflicting information, but I encourage you to be up-to-date on the vaccine policy of your state and on what vaccines your child may or may not need. As each state varies in its exemptions, limitations and requirements for the vaccination of children, we have provided additional resources below to help you begin your research.

The National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program(VICP)

Although vaccines are generally considered safe, sometimes adverse reactions occur. In 1986, the VICP was established to help compensate vaccine recipients and their families who have been severely injured as a result of adverse reactions following vaccination. Should an individual believe that they, or their child, have been injured as a result of a vaccine, they are able to petition the U.S. Court of Federal Claims to seek compensation. Additionally, the VICP pays for the legal expenses associated with the claim there is no financial risk to seek the services of an experienced vaccine attorney. We represent clients from around the country and would be glad to speak with you should you have any questions or concerns about a potential vaccine injury. If you believe you or your child has experienced an adverse reaction to a vaccine and want to file a claim call 1-800-431-9776 or email me at andrew@kh-law.net with any questions or concerns. At Krueger Hernandez & Thompson SC, We listen, We care, We get results!
